Qatar Guest Center
Friday Sermon (Khutbah al-Jumu'ah)

From the time that Dr Bilal Philips arrived in Qatar in the summer of 2003 and joined the Qatar Guest Center - the Da'wah branch of Shaikh Eid Al Thani Charity - he requested from the authorities permission to hold Friday Sermon (Khutbah al-Jumu'ah) in English, as all mosques in Qatar only had Arabic Friday Sermons, even though 70-75% of those attending most mosques were non-Arabs.
After 4 years of continued requests, proposals and petitions, the new Qatar Islamic Cultural Center, Fanar which was officially inaugurated in 2007, instituted Friday Sermons in English in its central mosque on the 1st June, 2007. Over 2,000 people attended the first Friday Sermon which was delivered by Dr Bilal. The topic of the Khutbah (Sermon) was "The Importance of Seeking Knowledge" and it was followed by half an hour of questions and answers. The second Khutbah, the following Friday was on "The Sources of Knowledge", and the third on "Sincerity". The fourth Friday of the month, Dr Bilal traveled to Chennai (Madras, South India) for lectures, and established there the first Friday Sermon in English at the Ibnul Qayyim Center.
Prior to coming to Qatar, Dr Bilal established the first Friday Sermon in English in the UAE in the Qasbah Mosque, Sharjah, UAE in the year 2000 after 7 years of efforts as the founder and director of the Islamic Information Center/Discover Islam - Dubai. In September 2007, Dr Bilal was requested by the Fanar administration to be the resident Khateeb (Friday Preacher) for its mosque and Islamic Center where he continues to deliver the Friday sermon as long as he is present in Doha, Qatar. The audios of his Friday sermons are available on his official website and so are the videos of the most recent sermons which Fanar recently began professionally recording.
