Q. I want to ask that I kept my money in Fix Deposit for that I’m going to get 9400/- Rs as interest in 2009. I’m worried about it at present that’s why when I deposited it and got to know that I’m going to get interest I started giving some money monthly to non-Muslims and brought birds and let them free just to remove that interest money. I kept that money in fix deposit to save it because I’m Divorced and want to make myself secure. If I keep it at home I will remove it and wasn't it that’s why I took it. I want to ask that is it good to give money to non-Muslims and bringing birds and releasing them. I know that it is not charity because the money is Haram. What I’m doing is right or wrong - releasing birds and giving money to non Muslim?
I saw lots of Muslim people need money some time so can we give that money to those people as they are Muslim? I heard that it should not b give to any Muslim person. I don’t have much contact with Masjid and all because there is no male in our home. As you told to give that money to build road and make toilets in Masjid. It will be difficult for me to do so.

A. If you do not know who to give the money to then another option is that you may purchase Islamic books and donate them to a non-Muslim library. Either in a school or institute etc. The point is that the money is for general benefit and not one individual.In regards to your fixed deposit you need to take it out of the commercial bank as it is haram to keep your savings there and you should transfer it to an Islamic bank, that way you will not have this problem to attend to and this is what is more pleasing to Allah.
Q. I have kept my money in Bank's Saving Account and had a fix deposit also. I saved that money from my monthly salary and I get Interest on that money, I know we should not have to do any kind of work from which we are getting interest but I can’t save money at my home due to many reasons that’s why I’m using Bank Account for it. Whatever interest I get on that money I give it to some non-Muslims and bring some birds and free them off. I know it’s not charity coz the money is Haram for us...Am I doing right thing or if keeping money in bank is wrong then what should I do here if I don’t have any Islamic bank? I don’t want to give that money to non-Muslims so can I give it to Muslim by telling them that "it is interest money if you want, take it but its Haram for us" can I ask them like this and give it to them or shall I give it to non-Muslims and free birds as I m doing to waste that money. I asked one of the people over here about it and he replied to burn up that money, shall I do so? I m feeling that is not correct to burn it up because it is very difficult to earn money and lots of people in this world need it, so brother kindly help me to overcome this problem.....

A. Firstly to give a clear answer to your question you would have to clarify what you mean by “bringing birds in and freeing them off”. However in general interest or haram earnings should be given in what is of general benefit to the community i.e. building toilets for the masjid, building roads etc. It is not considered to be sodaqah to anyone.
